Skips and dumpsters – we run some of the best skip hire Leicester has to offer - and you've seen them everywhere you go. Although sometimes viewed as a bit of an eyesore; skips and dumpsters have ironically provided a stable base for street-artists over the years. Whether this is because no one really cares what a skip looks like since it is present only on a temporary basis, or whether this is due to the fact the risk of prosecution for adding one's artwork to a skip is unlikely and the frame of your average skip is well-suited to being sprayed, no one knows. We take you now on a short journey through the artistic potential of (believe it or not) the skip!
This startling and colourful image on the side of an enclosed waste holding facility shares an uncanny resemblance to a certain circus performer. Perhaps the artist simply finds clowns to be intimidating?
An interesting design – and an interesting word to place on the side of a skip. Does this mean a tear such as that which would fall from an eye, or does it refer to tearing something as you would tear a sheet of paper in half?
Maybe not something you've seen on any of the skips leicester lying about. A dog painted on the side of a small waste containment dumpster/skip. If you look closely, there are interesting markings surrounding the right-hand eye – and is there a face within the mouth?
A rather cryptic piece of art on the side of this rubbish-holding revelation. Perhaps this could be a statement on the impersonal focus on communication through technology? Or maybe the ominous imagery is just for shock-and-show.
It seems only fitting to end this blog with a tribute to the popular and political graffiti artist "Banksy". Alright, so this isn't strictly a skip - it's a bottle bank. Banksy recently set up an exhibition (now closed) in the Bristol museum. It's well worth a Google – if you're interested in art and political statements. Above, note the characters which appear on Elmo's play building blocks. Is that a mask over his face?
We hope that through this blog, you might have realised that skips can have some pretty interesting uses besides just retaining rubbish! More interesting skip-related posts to come soon...
